How can I help you?

I understand how important and personal your story is. I will discuss all areas of your work and support you to create, plan, and strategies, to achieve your goal and find the best way to realise your vision. I’ve worked with writers of all levels of ability from beginners to professionals.

Book an Online Session

Online Session

Each online session is 1 hour and will be held over Zoom, or on the phone; whichever feels most comfortable and convenient for you. The session will be followed up by further information on the topics discussed and added to your Personal Google Document, only accessible to you, with constructive and practical notes on how to enhance your story's concept, narrative, structure, genre, theme, plot, characters, and dialogue.

How it Works

Send me an email at info@danielhallissey.com using the heading Online Session. We will then organise a free 20-minute consultation to see what you want to work on and then book you onto the next available and convenient slot. After sharing the topic(s) you would like to address, together we will unpick your chosen story, clarifying what are the different areas we need to concentrate on and what are the options moving forward.

Frequency of Sessions

Sessions can be planned beforehand in one go if it suits to have a routine. If you would like to have the sessions with a week interval it would be advisable to book in advance. I can also be flexible and make the next appointment at the end of the session depending on your personal needs and agenda.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

 Diana Nneka Atuona, Playwright

"I spent five and a half years struggling with my second play. In the end, frustrated and at the end of my rope, I brought it to Danny. His patience and attention to detail really helped me see where I was going wrong. I'm massively grateful to him."

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

 Tom Hartwell,

Writer & Actor

Daniel's insight and eye for detail was instrumental in not only completing a final draft of my latest play but completely revolutionised how I structure narrative and dialogue. He isn't afraid to cut through the usual feedback tropes and go straight for the solution with an honest, grounded, and knowledgeable approach.

Book a Script Assessment

Do I need a script assessment?

Do you feel stuck knowing your story is not quite right but have no idea why or how to proceed? It’s hard to step back and look at your work objectively when you’ve been close to it for so long. Having an outside eye read your script and providing unbiased feedback is incredibly valuable and has huge benefits, helping you refocus on what needs most addressing. Offering guidance and support, writers should have access to script assessment services in order to better understand their writing, improve their story and receive clear, honest, and constructive feedback: highlighting what's right, what’s not working and understand why.

Am I the right choice?

I have many years of experience in manuscript assessments. Since 2010 I’ve been teaching creative writing classes both privately and through theatres, including Phoenix Theatre Exeter and National Student Drama Festival to writers at all levels in their careers. I have worked as a creative practitioner for Plymouth Theatre Royal TR2 community projects and their young company. I've been part of the reading team for the Arcola Theatres PlayWROUGHT competition, providing feedback and recommendations for plays submitted. In 2010 I was one of the founder members of All The Pigs, creating and developing writing workshops, through their ‘First Time Writers Initiative’, successfully finding new writers and supporting their work and development through to performance.

How to Submit

Sessions can be planned beforehand in one go if it suits to have a routine. If you would like to have the sessions with a week interval it would be advisable to book in advance. I can also be flexible and make the next appointment at the end of the session depending on your personal needs and agenda. Send me an email at info@danielhallissey.com using the heading Script Assessment, once we have agreed on payment based on the size and type of script you want to be assessed, you can then send your script attached as either a PDF or Word doc. Please ensure your script and text are in the correct format (page size A4, 12-point font, normal margins, double spaced, with pages numbered.)

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

 Matteo Piombino, Actor and writer

"Working with Danny has been immensely helpful on the development of my script. He’s thorough and detailed with his feedback and makes insightful suggestions. My script is in a far better place thanks to his contribution. Danny’s knowledge on scriptwriting and the technicality of the process is second to none. You definitely want him in your corner if you’re thinking about developing a story."

Creative Writing Course

The Course

My course will give you the tools and confidence to put your ideas into a framework that supports your writing. Designed for both new and experienced writers. You will be introduced to the basic elements and key concepts that make a story. I won't encourage you to write - one thing I can promise is, I will never tell you to 'just start writing' - I encourage you to plan. By knowing Structure, Character Arcs, Genre, and Plot, you will learn the importance of how these elements are used and work together and have a solid foundation to start writing.

What makes this Course Different?

Having attended many creative writing courses over the years I found they concentrate on encouraging writers to write, offering different exercises to find ways to inspire and get your ideas onto the page. This can seem useful, but it will not solve the writer's problem of understanding how a story works and inevitably lead back to frustration and writer's block. I believe in the importance of understanding the elements of what makes a good story. My course breaks everything down so you understand the journey a character must take and why, how each character fits into your story, how to create conflict and obstacles, look at how each major plot is broken down, and the importance of structure. You'll come away from my course confident in how to plan and move forward with your own story.
